What caught my attention is the fact that the story follows a 16-year-old who is suddenly thrown into a dangerous situation and has to make difficult choices instead of simply watching from the sidelines. That idea of being put in an unfamiliar situation and having to figure things out as you go also fits Scary Teacher 3D in a completely different way. You enter Miss T’s house, have no perfect plan laid out for you, and have to explore, find useful items, and decide how to pull off each prank without getting caught.
This is such an inspiring story - the idea of a sixteen-year-old making that kind of choice under occupation is almost unfathomable. I love that the review highlights her as an "upstander" rather than a bystander, because it really reframes what ordinary courage can look like in extraordinary times. Speaking of reaction and quick thinking under pressure, it reminds me of the okiaimx game I've been using to train my own reflexes - obviously not in the same league as what Mary did, but it's interesting how much our brains can adapt when we're forced to react fast. Definitely adding this memoir to my reading list.
